CSM Photoshoot
Project: CSM Project
Season: A/W 2011
Part: 1
Photographer: Alexandra Hesketh-Wells Photography
Make-Up: Ollie Gilbert; Eyeshadow is Barry M, Eyeliner is Mac, Lipstick is Miss Sporty
Earrings: Fish is Freedom at Topshop, Wing is Freedom at Topshop, Purple Star is Claire's
Comments: Love these photographs, exactly what I wanted, very gothic to keep in line with the gothic aspects in the book. I will never forget what I read about fashion being not only the clothing and accessories, its about the whole package, that I cannot quote exactly, but it was Alexander McQueen. The Morlocks are described as the large red eyes being overwhelming, but I did not want to remove from the clothing too much, so I decided to use stage make-up with an edit of red contacts. The oversized jumper took from the floaty sense of the Eloi and used the lustre of the velvet to its advantage to continue the light reflective image throughout, included with the gothic black colouring it brings a creature-like aspect to the clothing, which is exactly as described in the book. The size also links in very well to predictions of the time, and the high-waisted trousers I travelled from S/S predictions, I predicted that the high-waisted trousers would continue, so I decided to use that. I love these photos, and I cannot wait to see the next set!

Bumsters
Project: N/A
Season: A/W 2010
Photographer: Oluwafifesubomi Ogunnuga
Finished: 23th January 2011
Comments: I had seen the fabric first in the shop near to where I used to live, and out of 1.5 meters you cannot get much else, other than trousers. So I decided to do bumsters because the fashion is to have them low. They were designed to be baggy at the top half of the leg and very skinny at the bottom. These have a concealed button, I went out of my way to try to make the stitching completely invisible on the trousers, they are top stitched and the rest is invisible. These have been fully lined to allow for ease of getting my legs in and out. The trousers are so low that they literally wont hold themselves up without a belt, but I had planned for this; now all I need is a suitable belt.

Feathered Hat
Fabric: Headband and feather coquette from Amazon, the cotton from Online Fabrics
Project: CSM Juxtaposition Project
Season: A/W 2011
Finished: 16th January 2011
Comments: This was originally designed to go over the nose, in a similar way to glasses, but hanging in a downwards direction. The idea developed from the original designs for the project (below) and was adapted from the nose design into the hat/tiara design because I don't have anything to bend the metal particularly well, so due to that it was adapted. I literally got the foam head today (again from amazon) so decided to finish it today. The head is actually a lot larger than mine so the head dwarfs the concept, because it was shaped around my head.

CSM Necklace
Fabric: Leatherette from Online Fabrics, Studs and Buckle from MaCulloch and Wallis
Project: CSM Juxtaposition Project
Season: A/W 2011
Finished: 5th January 2011
Comments: This is my first time making a necklace and first time with this kind of stud, and I honestly believe it went well, I love this piece. I think it links the darkness of the Morlock with the workplace and home filled with metal.

CSM Balaclava
Fabric: Cotton, elastic and Netting from Online Fabrics
Project: CSM Juxtaposition Project
Season: A/W 2011
Finished: 5th January 2011
Comments: Based on H.G.Wells' description of the Morlocks, they are described as having large red eyes so they could see in the dark. This balaclava masks the model as gives him the allusive nature of the Morlock. I had to use four layers of red netting for the red to be, but I think it links well into the design noticeable.

Saint Martins Project

These are the final designs from my 'Future Beauty' project from St. Martins, I chose to look at how past eras have explored the future. I liked the idea of using H.G.Wells' The Time Machine (sold here) as a basis for the project. I explored both the Eloi and Morlock and how they inspired me and began to develop initial ideas for both. I preferred the freedom the Morlock designs gave and so continued with them. As the enddeadline arrived, I decided on the best Name and season for the concept; Juxtaposition for A/W '11. These designs shown are the end two concepts I designed for the project and I will continue to make one of them ( I chose the design on the right because I dont have the facilities to work with metal, and without that the design on the left would just be a jumpsuit, so a tad boring). Stay tuned for the developing costume.
P.S. sorry about the terrible scans, they are A3 and I only had an A4 scanner, so its put together on my mac.
Millinery
Finished: 3rd January 2011.
Photographer: Oluwafifesubomi Ogunnuga
Comments: This is my first hat I have ever made, it has a comb on the underside to hold in place. A womenswear piece for a formal occasion. I do not actually like it, because in cream it disappears almost and is modish. The techniques learnt in doing this I can continue, but next time, I would like to try something far more original and creative.

T-shirt
Photographer: Oluwafifesubomi Ogunnuga
Comments: Fits like a glove, simple t-shirt, my first attempt at a knitted fabric through a sewing machine, stretches well considering. The detailing on the front was iron on print for dark colours and it didn't come out as brightly as the light one appeared (see Marilyn Monroe Cushion below) but it is visible in natural light if you look for it, and it gave it a nice sheen. The design is a praying mantis, only because it doesnt seem to be used much in apparel, and I like the shape.
Bookbag
Photographer: Oluwafifesubomi Ogunnuga
Comments: Totally forgot I had mad this between September/October-time to carry my art and textiles books around cause they were large and heavy and would therefore not fit into my ordinary bag. The size fits two A3 Sketchpads, and although I dislike the fabric, it is sturdy and hasn't broken yet. Inside pocket detail and lined with plain 100% cotton.

Just started a fb page, link is on the right, if you want to hear more about where I order from and how long it took me, when I buy fabrics etc. have a look on there, that will be more of a running commentary than the blog, this is simply a log of pieces I have finished.

Selling to Violet Boutique
Fabric: Oilcloth
Comments: These are my home ware bags, I made the first versions of these just over a year ago and they are still standing, even with constant use, not even a thread has come out which I am proud of. These are the designs which have been sold to Violet Boutique in Canterbury, only sold in store. Other pictures include the display of the shop and the shop front/display
